Skill Requirements
- Math skills
- Basic geometry / must figure angles
- Simple blueprint reading
- Read tape measure
- RELIABLE and SELF-MOTIVATED
- Must be willing to do extensive travel
- Must be mechanical
- Must be familiar with steel layout and structures
- Must be able to stick weld in all positions
- Cannot be afraid of heights
- In all millwright positions, a technical school degree is very helpful. Millwrights are given tasks and need to be able to figure out how to accomplish them.
Welder
Skill Requirements
- Very good mig welding skills (certification helps, but not required)
- Classes to learn wire welder settings, steel shapes, etc.
- Good math skills (basic geometry/figure angles, blueprint reading, read tape measure)
- Blue print reading
- Mechanical background
- Steel fabrication knowledge
- Cutting techniques with torch or plasma
- Layout fabrication
- Steel gauges
- Torch and plasma cutting
- Forklifts
- Must be reliable and self-motivated
- Work with a team and follow team leader’s instructions
- Workers are given a task and have the freedom to figure out the best way to accomplish it
- Pay raises and advancement is on an individual basis based on capabilities, work ethic, and reliability – how far do you want to go?
